POSTERS

DUNE

This was a school project to create a movie poster. As a group, we decided on Dune and then made our individual posters. My dad raised me on the David Lynch movie, and now, as a film person, I love the recent Denis Villeneuve films.

PROJECT SUMMARY

It's an epic story spanning space and time. I went for a gritty, yet clean, design with a scale as large and trippy as the story. The orange sand of Arrakis and the blue-within-blue Eyes of Ibad are iconic imagery from the books and films. I wanted the central iris of the eye to subconsciously nod toward a sandworm, as well. The two moons of Arrakis doubling as a reflection on the iris.

BEHIND THE SCENES

Here are some select process captures to see how we achieved the final result.

DUNE MOOD BOARD

I wanted to use visuals that would bring the iconic orange of Arrakis, the blue from the Eyes of Ibad, and darkness of space together for form a comprehensive graphic that encapsulates the vast expanse of the film and its legacy.

POSTER SKETCHES: PART I

I wanted the poster to be a little trippy while conveying the epic proportions of the story. I also explored some book cover-esque looks to tie into the original format that some diehard fans would appreciate. I eventually went with the second sketch on this page.

DUNE SKETCHES; PART II

Some designs featured imagery within the typography as the primary visual. I also started go more spacey and abstract, but ultimately went the route I felt fans of Dune would appreciate... Hopefully haha.
