This was a school project to create a poster for a music festival. The design is minimal, uses figure ground, and creative typography so that the listed information and graphics capture the attention of the primary demographic for jazz music.
This is one of my personal favorite posters I've created; it was inspired by one of my favorite designers, Malika Favre. The stark contrast of the color graphics recalls the spotlight of the stage. The use of typography, as apart of the graphic elements, really brings it all together into a cohesive central figure. This design could also be expanded into a poster series featuring different instruments integrated into the person playing it (I had sketches for a piano and an upright bass).

Here are some select process captures to see how I achieved the final result.
I looked at a variety of jazz posters, but especially looking at abstract silhouettes for the central figures, geometric shapes/lines, colors with a stark contrast to black. The middle column of posters, by designer Malika Favre, were my main inspiration for this piece (the bottom two being sketches for the top final poster for the Montreaux Jazz Festival).
