PORTSHOWLIO

Portshowlio is the name of the graduating event at Seattle Central's graphic design program. We turn the Seattle Central Creative Academy, the entire fifth floor of the campus, into a large exhibit to display the work we made over the course of the program. I created the 3D exhibit map; brochure layout; and, with the help of the team, a Mylar® sculpture installation for the event.

PROJECT SUMMARY

Every year, it seems graduates of the SCCA are trying to up the ante when it comes to their Portshowlio. Our class wanted to highlight more 3D and motion graphic skills. It seemed appropriate to have the exhibit map 3D as we've seen with some professional environmental graphics. We created a 3D floor plan in Spline to integrate into the website; that interactive map is featured here. The flat floor plan was for internal use and was the basis for the 3D floor plan.

For the central hallway and the Main Area, the exhibit team came up with the idea to create a reflective sculpture-esque installation that would lead people through the space. We used Mylar® and I pinned it to the wall in a flowy parametric fashion. I had some help when it came to the installation and ensuring it was as consistent as possible within time constraints.

*Note: For the brochure, the colorful abstract forms, type treatment, and the layout of those designs were created by the marketing team for Portshowlio. This is meant to showcase my ability to create printable collateral within a design system.

INTERACTIVE FLOOR PLAN

This was a 3D floor plan I created for the website and a touchscreen during the exhibit.

BEHIND THE SCENES

Here are some select process captures to see how I achieved the final result.

THE ACTUAL FLOOR PLAN FOR SCCA

I was provided a copy of the actual floor plans for the fifth floor of Seattle Central Community College. This would ensure the floor plan we would use for the show would be as accurate as possible.

ORIGINAL 3D RENDERING OF THE FLOOR PLAN

Using the above floor plan, I created a simplified version that we would use. I traced the walls in Adobe Illustrator, converted it into a 3D object, and imported the object into Adobe Dimension. There were a few versions I made after we all decided what sections we wanted to display.
